Figs Wrapped with Jamon Serrano
Spanish Jamon Serrano is often compared to Italian Prosciutto. Both are
delicious and similar, yet, to take a closer taste you will find Jamon Serrano
holds a sweeter, nuttier flavor while Prosciutto is slightly more salty and
usually sliced thinner. This recipe is almost completely in the title. A ripe
basket of figs and a good quality Jamon Serrano is all you need.
For 8-10
1 basket of figs
9 slices of Jamon Serrano (sliced not to thin and not to thick)
Store Jamon in refrigerator until just before wrapping figs. Jamon Serrano
tends to be easier to handle chilled rather than at room temperature. Rinse
figs under cold water and carefully pat dry. Cut figs in half. Using about a
third of a slice of Jamon per fig, gently wrap figs loosely, leaving some of the
top or bottom of the fig exposed. Serve along side Manchego cheese, olives,
bread, and toasted almonds.
